You have a WMS to run your warehouse. But what hardware do you actually need for it? We regularly receive this question from webshops that manage their own logistics. In this article, we outline it.
The packing table as a starting point
Everything starts at the packing table . This is the place where orders are assembled, checked, and packed. Ensure your packing table is well-organized with everything at hand: boxes, packing material, tape, and a label printer. A logically organized packing table saves time every day.
Desktop
To run Lyra WMS, you need a desktop with at least 8 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor (or similar). This is sufficient for the smooth operation of the system.
Label printer
A label printer is indispensable for printing shipping labels. We recommend the Zebra ZD220d . This is a reliable, direct thermal printer that operates quickly and quietly and integrates well with Lyra WMS.
Scanner: two options
Scanning is optional, but we strongly recommend it. It prevents picking errors and significantly speeds up your workflow. You have two options for this.
Dumb scanner (entry level): A simple barcode scanner connected to your desktop. Simple, affordable, and more than sufficient for most warehouse operations. This is our standard recommendation if you want to start scanning.
Zebra Smart Handheld Scanner (Advanced): On this device, you run Lyra WMS directly via its own screen. This allows you to scan while walking through the warehouse, without having to constantly return to the packing table. Interesting for larger warehouses or operations with a lot of walking. However, the purchase price is higher.
